Manaiakalani Film Festival

“I’m ready, I'm ready to go to school. I’m ready, I’m ready to perform in front of my school!” I sang out loud.  Today is a special day because I am going to be representing my class and my school at the Manaiakalani film festival at Sylvia Park movies.

My day started off with me singing because I was so excited.8 o'clock, I arrived at school and went to the school hall. When I entered the hall, I already saw my partner, Levonah there.

I sat next to Levonah so we could practice our lines to say in front of the whole entire school. A few minutes later, Mrs Lagitupu took Levonah,Ella,Lynette,Naomi, Bethan and I to Sylvia park. When I set  foot in the Extreme screen room, I felt lots of emotions like excitement, worried, afraid and extremely honoured.

At 9 o'clock we started to practice our speeches all together in order. 30 minutes later the whole entire school marched into the extreme screen room. As I saw what feels like a million people walk by,  I started to feel butterflies flying around in my stomach.

Right after the second movie finished, it was our turn to present our class.  As I got on stage, I was ready to present our class movie, I thought about what my mum said if I did my script perfectly which was she will buy me KFC. My favourite movie was the Hunt for the Manaiakalani People and later on that day I had wicked wings and gravy for dinner.

I can’t wait for next year’s Film Festival!

The bush walk

Every morning Rachel and Christina, would go for a walk near the bushes around their house. They would walk every morning to be fit and healthy. Sometimes they would do even ride their bikes too.

But one morning Rachel and Christina saw something. It was a fairy, she was wearing blue indigo ish clothes and she had long black hair. Christina asked the fairy nicely  “ Hi my name is Christina, what is your name” The fairy replied “ My name is Hayley, I’m the rain fairy.

All of a sudden it started to rain, Christina and Rachel took Hayley to their house. Hayley’s job was to make it rain whenever it was time to water the flowers and plants. But today wasn’t one of those days, today Jack Frost’s goblins have stolen the magic key to the human world.

Hayley said “ You are the only ones that can help us fairies defeat them, please!” “OK” said Rachel and Christina. Rachel and Christina traveled to fairyland with Hayley. They both met all of the fairies.

Christina and Rachel saw a few goblins around the fairy castle with the key, so they ran outside with Hayley. Hayley made it rain so it could burn the goblins down and they did burn. Rachel ran over to the goblins and picked up the key and brought it to the Queen of  fairyland.

Christina and Rachel traveled back to their world and wished to have another mission for them.

Tasting our Ginger Beer

Today we tasted our Ginger Beer. All of us got wet because it exploded. Mr Moran and Ms King saw us freaking out. It tasted kind of sour but it definitely did not taste like Lemon and Paeroa.

The Day of Disaster

There was a mad scientist named Albert Einstein who had  assistant named Valentine Bargmann. Albert was a perfectionist, he wanted every thing perfect like his invention he was working on. He was creating a world changing formula. It could change humans into his slaves and zombies.

As he was testing the formula Albert thought he was missing something. Albert said “ Safety first” Albert tested the formula on Valentine with five drops. Nothing happened but overnight he changed not into a zombie or a slave, he transformed into a duplicate of Albert.

The next day, Valentine woke up and got ready to begin his day but when he looked in the mirror he  flipped out so he fainted. Three hours later, he woke up and couldn’t remember what happened. Valentine checked his watch and he was fifty minutes late for work.

When he arrived at the laboratory, Albert knew that the fake Albert was Valentine. “Yes, this better than what I expected” said Dr Albert. Dr Albert had an idea to trick people into drinking the formula. Albert went to go get 1000  water bottles and filled it with water also a drop of the formula. Valentine selled all of the drinks to Auckland, new zealand. Since Albert put one drop of the formula, they were transforming quicker.

With no one to save them, Auckland turned into Alberts.

There, Olga’s first coach was Elena Vochetskaya,a gold medalist but she was moved to Renald’s group a year later. With him, she learnt an difficult backward somersault on the balance beam.

She launched the move at this competition in  USSR in 1969. In the same year, Olga completed a backflip to catch on the uneven bars, this was the the first backward release move ever performed by a woman on bars. The next day, Olga did the same routine in the event finals. The judge’s score altogether was 9.8, the audience were booing the score because they thought she deserved an 10 but the judges refused to change her score.

The backward release move got named after Olga, the Korbut flip also the Korbut  was banned from gymnastics. The Korbut flip was banned because it was too risky for anyone to do it. That was why they banned the flip.

Olympics comparsions

We are learning about the ancient and the modern Olympics.

The Ancient Olympics

The Olympics of 1896 in Athens,in Greece had fourteen countries taking part with most of the athletes from Greece. This first Modern Olympics was the largest meeting of international competitors that had ever occurred. The next Olympics held in Paris, four years later was the first to allow women competitors. This time the Olympics were part of a much bigger event and lasted several months.

Ben Johnson story

In 1988, during the Olympics there was the 100 metre final race. The competitors all lined up, all eyes were on  Ben Johnson and Carl Lewis. It was going to be a tough race !

As soon as the gun  went off Ben Johnson’s start was phenomenal. He was coming 1st, not only did he win but he ran a new world record.  Ben Johnson got the gold medal but 3 hours later there was a shocking announcement.

They tested a sample of Ben Johnson to see if he used any drugs. When they tested the sample they tried it again to see if it was positive. Ben Johnson was caught using drugs!

He knew he was banned from the Olympics for life. He disappointed his country, Canada. The Host country took the gold medal off Ben Johnson and gave it to Carl Lewis.

Pheidippides

A long time ago in Ancient Greece there was a war in a town named Marathon, the Greeks were fighting the Persians. While fighting, the Greeks were winning against the Persians. Happily and with lots of luck, the Greeks won.

The boss of the Athenian army said to one of his fittest soldier named Pheidippides, “Go run to the emperor of Athens to spread the good news”. Pheidippides ran to Athens, he had to run 42.2 km. He ran up the highest mountains and ran around some cliffs. He was so dehydrated yet he never gave up.

Pheidippides finally arrived at Athens. He shouted “Joy, we won!” He took his last breath and collapsed to the ground. Pheidippides will be remembered as the person who invented the meaning of the word Marathon.

The Olympic Flame

The Ancient Greeks started the tradition of having an Olympic flame in Olympia. A sacred flame is lit by the sun's rays and stays alight until the games have ended. The flame symbolized a request for protection from Zeus and the athletes struggles for victory.

The modern flame symbolizes the light of the spirit, knowledge and life. To this day, the torch is still lit in Olympia in Greece, then carried by a relay team passing runner to runner until it reaches the host-city of the games. There, the cauldron will be lit and stay alight until the closing ceremony.

Ancient Olympics

The Olympics began over two and a half thousand years ago in ancient Greece. In those days Greece was made up of several different states including Athens, Sparta and Corinth and they were often at war with each other but when the games were on they held a truce. This great event was held at a place called Olympia and this is why the games are called the Olympics.

They were held once every four years in honour of Zeus, lord of all the gods. Eventually the ancient Olympics were abolished by the roman Emperor Theodosius the first who was a christian and didn’t like the games because they were dedicated to a pagan god but the Olympics were always remembered as a symbol of human achievement and peace.

Te Tuhi Trip

Climbing off the bus, we lined up in 2 straight line to get ready to go inside. When we went inside we saw this cool sculpture made by this sculptor. While we were waiting we saw our tour guide (Jeremy).

We followed Jeremy to the art room, where we were going to do our activity that involves Geometry. Jeremy had an activity for us, we had to make a dreamhouse. The first thing that we had to do was we had to form our houses with shapes. The second thing that we did was, we had to glue our shapes on to the paper so that the shapes will stick to it. The third thing was we get a vivid and draw on the outlines of each shape. The last thing we had to do was get a pencil and draw anything we would want to have in our dream house.

Visiting the Te Tuhi Art Gallery, made me eager for another visit.

My Geometry Gardens

In my garden my flowers have a rotational symmetry and look the same also it has an reflective symmetry.

This means that my flower can rotate the order of 4 times and reflect 4 times also  when you turn it it will still look the same.

In my garden my butterfly has a reflective symmetry.

This means that my butterfly can reflect on each sides . In the middle of the butterfly there is an line of symmetry.

In my garden my pathway shows tessellation.

To make my pathway I translated each shape so that it can look the same .

This means that each shape can translate and tessellate so that it has no gaps between each shape.

The 6 Thinking Hats

How I feel about my artwork or the whole process.
I felt proud of my artwork because It was a quiet time to just relax and paint. Also because It was good time to just think about your artwork not anything else.
What did I enjoy most of all or what was the best thing about my painting.
The best thing about my artwork is my building in the back and beside my colosseum. What I loved about it, was it had lot of colours and detail outside of the buildings.
What did I find hard or I didn’t like.
The hardest thing for me was trying not to go outside of the lines when I was painting. Another  thing that I didn’t like was my painting was a little bit messy because I kept on rushing instead of taking my time.
How can I do my art better next time?
Something I would do better about my artwork next time, is taking more time and being more careful when I am painting the windows (shapes).
What was the most interesting thing I did or my friends did.
The most interesting thing that my best friend Eden, did was she did lots of different sculptures like the great wall of china, the Eiffel tower and the london eye. The other thing that was interesting was she used Dye instead of paint because her painting had lots of small detail that is to hard to paint.
What did I learn most about?
What I learnt about mostly is to take your time when you are painting  and to also be careful when you are painting.

Fiafia night

Supporting my friends and class , I was eagerly waiting for my group to perform on the stage for fiafia . Sitting on the cold mat , I shouted out loud “ Go Jasmine Go” . Hearing the music and seeing their performance made me proud.

While we were getting ready to go on the stage , I was practising my lines over and over again for my speech.  When I got on stage,  I  was nervous  because I was one of the leaders, also because I had to talk in front of everyone. After my speech in front of everyone , I felt proud of myself.

The New Zealand

I want to change the flag because, our flag looks similar to the Australian flag. I don’t want hear a single person saying ‘‘are you australian’’ or else I’m going to complain. Complaining is not my favourite thing to do.

My other staunch opinion is about the new flag. The most important thing about this special flag is that there is a big white fern that is going across. The fern is special to us because it is been in our history also it has been internationally recognized from this symbol of New Zealand.

The blob

The blob.jpg
Waiting in the line, I didn’t know what to do. At last, it was my turn to go on the Blob and I tried to make up an excuse but I still had to go on the Blob. I was terrified.

Crawling along the blob, I was thinking of what would happen. When I got to the end of the blob. 5,4,3,2,1, the countdown was on. As soon as I was launched into the sky I did a pose. ‘‘What a blast’’ I said.

Splashing into the lake I swallowed some of the lake water ‘‘Yuck’’ I said. The second time I splashed into the salty lake I landed on my back and now my back hurts. Now I am never going back to the blob.

Rollercoaster

It is time. I had waited ages for this moment to arrive, but now it was here,I wanted to wish it away again. Until today,I had never been so scared for my life.

The sweat poured from my brow as we waited and watched. I felt as if I might faint from nervousness. ‘‘I’m so scared’’ I whispered to my mum.

Closing my eyes, I wished over and over again that the ride would soon end. Was it nearly over ? I screamed and screamed and crossed my fingers tight.

Lost in a Forest.

Through the forest, a girl named Emma was running away from her cruel stepmother. Step by step Emma got scared and was wondering where she was going. Emma heard something in the bush going ‘’clang clang’’.

Emma kept on walking until she saw a little cottage made out of candy, chocolate and sweets. She went inside and saw a witch named Maleficent . Maleficent locked her up in a small cage to get ready to put her in the oven.
Emma got scared, she started to think ‘’ding’’ a idea popped in her head. Emma grabbed the key to unlock the cage, she unlocked the cage and jumped outside of the cage. As soon as Maleficent opened the oven door, Emma quickly pushed Maleficent into the oven then locked her in there for the whole day.

She ran as fast as she could back to her stepmother. Her stepmother promised Emma she would never ever be cruel ever again .
