Protests - Writing 2020

PROTESTS
Why do people protest? To fight for what they think is right, raising awareness so we
can all make a change in our community. For more than 150 years, New Zealand has
had the freedom to protest. You can protest if you want!

What is a protest? A protest is a party of people taking action against or for something.
Hikoi, March, Strike, Petition, Meet and Rallies, these are the different ways you can
protest. The group of people share the same understanding and perspective and try to
convince the other side to see what is wrong!

What causes a protest? Protests are an action-based response to a controversial topic.
It usually occurs when people have had enough of staying silent. They use their voice as
an attempt to influence the public, government and more.

Do Protests actually work? Yes! But, it depends on the people who are protesting and
the government. The protesters must be able to convince and have evidence to support
their protest, Our government should also be able to listen and understand what they’re
trying to say, they should also make the right and best decision for their people and
land. It all decides on both sides!

Now that you are more educated on protests, what are you gonna do? WIll you use
your voice and amplify others' opinions? You have the freedom to protest about
anything. You are able to protest and change the world!

Task Description
This is my writing about protests. It took a pretty long time to write and I am very proud of what i've written. Hope you have learnt more about this topic!

I am grateful for... - Inquiry 2020

Task Description
Taha Hinengaro. This is all about having an healthy mind. I learnt many ways to deal and relieve your stress personally, interpersonally and societally. One way I relieve and help my mind be in a positive mindset is by listening to music. I learnt that there is always someone that can and will listen to your problems. You just got to keep searching. And if that doesn't work then going to people with more skills and control like an therapist, nurse/doctor or teacher is someone who could help take things off of your mind/chest. Just like our physical health, our mental health is just as important. We must learn to communicate and discuss how we are feeling and why we are feeling certain emotions. And to this day many adults are still learning that helpful skill!

My task was to write down 3 - 5 things I am grateful for and why. Writing down positive things distracts you from something that is bugging you. To be happy, you must accept your emotions. Check out what I am grateful for and why!

A Way Of Talking - Reading work

Walt: think critically about an author's style

Task Description

This week's reading task was to read a short story and think very hard about how the author has written it. The short story we read was very hard to understand because it didn't give us much information because we had to analyse and pull out info to get a full conclusion. This helped me to get better at this skill which is analysing and getting information from a sentence or two. You can check out above to see what I am talking about!

For my Review I talked about the text I read, which is 'A way of talking'! I wrote a summary of the story, wrote about my thoughts, favourite parts in the story. Also what age I recommend to read the short story. That is also up in the presentation!

My create task was to imagine that we are Rose, who is a character from the story and describe how she is feeling and what she is thinking, when she hears Jane's remark. Check that up in the Presentation and anything else.

If you have any positive questions or feedback on my blog then feel free to comment. Enjoy!

Matariki Day Recount!

Walt: structure a recount

Have you ever had your school celebrate a day about Matariki? Well Pt England School took a day off school work last Friday and started having fun, it was a day full of enthusiasm. Read on to find out more about our Matariki day.

After Assembly, we were bursting to find out who was in our group and what group we were in. Miss Parrant shouted out “ Pisirina, Eden and Chance go to the Staff room because you are in My Kai Rules.” I jumped into thrillness because my two friends were with me in my group. I went speed walking to the Staff Room and found 15 other people power walking towards the Office.

At the Office, Miss Flavelle, Mrs Sorenson, Mrs McMillan and Miss Takerei gave us stickers with our names on it so that they can remember our names. We got splitted into 3 stations and did 3 different things. Eden,Ayvah,Danielle,John, Rangimaria, Rozaida and I were with Mrs McMillan’s station. We made Chocolate Fudge Slices. It was Deliciously Tasty.

Mrs McMillan gave us a laminated list with ingredients and instructions. We all read out “Chocolate fudge Slices.” We were reading out the ingredients and putting the ingredients on top of the small table. Finally we were ready to bake! My favourite thing to do during the process of baking is melting the butter. It was so satisfying and it smelled nice when Eden and I were melting the butter.

We then were adding in the ingredients.Ayvah and John splatted the mixture of all the ingredients onto a parchment paper and tray. Then we carefully threw it into the Refrigerator that was in the Staffroom. After that, MKR group spent 15 minutes creating a plate for us to take home. On that plate there was fruit kebabs, egg and parsley sandwiches, ham sandwiches, chocolate chip cookies and Chocolate fudge slices. All the treats on our plate were made by the MKR group.

Finally we finished up and had to go to the hall to have a assembly to show what some of our groups in our whole school have done. We were chosen by Mr Burt to go up the stage and present our creation which was our food plate to the whole school. Zaeeda grabbed the microphone and described what was on our plates. It was a very good description of our plates.

At the end of the day, I think everyone in my group would agree with me and say that it was Amazingly awesome. We were so blessed that we got to make all sorts of yummy treats. I can not wait until next year to do this again.

Task Description
For this task we had to write a recount about Last friday the 8th of June. We wrote about how interesting or fun our day was. This was really tiring to write because our class doesn't like recounts . Read my whole story above to find out how the 8th of June went.

Immersion Assembly

Wow! My ears are sore from all of the movies. Oh Hi there we just came back from Immersion assembly. I know what you may be thinking,( What in the world is Immersion assembly?)
Well instead of answering your question, I will tell you what happened at my Immersion assembly.

It started off by Mr Burt saying “ Kia ora Tamariki Ma, It is Term 2. As you can already see up here our topic for this Term is Now that’s thinking”! “Kia ora Mr Burt “replied the entire school tiredly. We did our karakia and the prefect did their Mihi but we didn’t sing the national anthem. When Mr Burt told us to sit down (before singing the national anthem ) and moved on to the next thing, I was like“ is this even a assembly”?.

Finally my favourite part about Immersion assembly, knowing what the focus on the term is for our teams. As usual Team 1 is always first, what they are doing are making kites to celebrate Matariki.Fun fact about Matariki, they don’t show up at night, they only show up at 3 or 4 in the morning so you have to sleep early like at 6 or 7.
Team 2! What are they going to be learning about? Well I will tell you right now. They are going to be doing the same thing as Team 1. Yep they're going to make kites. They are going to make it out sticks, types of fabric and strong string. Next up is Team 3.

Team 3 is learning about Tamarereti to celebrate Matariki. Matariki is so big that nearly every team is celebrating Matariki. The second to last thing is my team (Team 4).

My team is going to see how technology has changed over time from the past to the future and what kinds of technology Maori used before Pakeha and Europeans came to aotearoa. The last and all Team 5 ( the year 7 & 8 seniors).

Team 5 is doing something which associates to Now that's thinking a lot. They are going to learn how can we design, build, create and change to improve life at Pt England ? “ Yeah how can we make Pt england a better place”?

This term I am so excited to see what happens. I am also excited to play sports this season in winter.

Maori Technology Poster.

Walt:  Work with a range of texts to pull ideas together and form opinions and new knowledge.

This term we are looking at technology. Team 4 are going to be looking into the history of technologies which were created and used by tangata whenua in Aotearoa hundreds of years ago. Our Topic for this term is Now that's thinking.
