Ancient Olympics

The Olympics began over two and a half thousand years ago in ancient Greece. In those days Greece was made up of several different states including Athens, Sparta and Corinth and they were often at war with each other but when the games were on they held a truce. This great event was held at a place called Olympia and this is why the games are called the Olympics.

They were held once every four years in honour of Zeus, lord of all the gods. Eventually the ancient Olympics were abolished by the roman Emperor Theodosius the first who was a christian and didn’t like the games because they were dedicated to a pagan god but the Olympics were always remembered as a symbol of human achievement and peace.

Te Tuhi Trip

Climbing off the bus, we lined up in 2 straight line to get ready to go inside. When we went inside we saw this cool sculpture made by this sculptor. While we were waiting we saw our tour guide (Jeremy).

We followed Jeremy to the art room, where we were going to do our activity that involves Geometry. Jeremy had an activity for us, we had to make a dreamhouse. The first thing that we had to do was we had to form our houses with shapes. The second thing that we did was, we had to glue our shapes on to the paper so that the shapes will stick to it. The third thing was we get a vivid and draw on the outlines of each shape. The last thing we had to do was get a pencil and draw anything we would want to have in our dream house.

Visiting the Te Tuhi Art Gallery, made me eager for another visit.

My Geometry Gardens

In my garden my flowers have a rotational symmetry and look the same also it has an reflective symmetry.

This means that my flower can rotate the order of 4 times and reflect 4 times also  when you turn it it will still look the same.

In my garden my butterfly has a reflective symmetry.

This means that my butterfly can reflect on each sides . In the middle of the butterfly there is an line of symmetry.

In my garden my pathway shows tessellation.

To make my pathway I translated each shape so that it can look the same .

This means that each shape can translate and tessellate so that it has no gaps between each shape.

The 6 Thinking Hats

How I feel about my artwork or the whole process.
I felt proud of my artwork because It was a quiet time to just relax and paint. Also because It was good time to just think about your artwork not anything else.
What did I enjoy most of all or what was the best thing about my painting.
The best thing about my artwork is my building in the back and beside my colosseum. What I loved about it, was it had lot of colours and detail outside of the buildings.
What did I find hard or I didn’t like.
The hardest thing for me was trying not to go outside of the lines when I was painting. Another  thing that I didn’t like was my painting was a little bit messy because I kept on rushing instead of taking my time.
How can I do my art better next time?
Something I would do better about my artwork next time, is taking more time and being more careful when I am painting the windows (shapes).
What was the most interesting thing I did or my friends did.
The most interesting thing that my best friend Eden, did was she did lots of different sculptures like the great wall of china, the Eiffel tower and the london eye. The other thing that was interesting was she used Dye instead of paint because her painting had lots of small detail that is to hard to paint.
What did I learn most about?
What I learnt about mostly is to take your time when you are painting  and to also be careful when you are painting.
