WALT- Write a recount
Today is the first day of Term 2. We are back from our two week break. We had just came back from watching the Immersion Assembly. We had to watch 5 items from the teachers.
This term, our Topic is. . . I like your Latitude! But for our team which is Team 5. We are mainly focusing on the Inquiry Question 'What Longitude and Latitude are you in?'. Keep reading to find out what that is about! Let's move on!
We started the Assembly off with a Karakia and Mihi. Instead of doing the National Anthem we just went straight into it. The first item was from the Associate principles and the principle himself. They were talking about how Coding and technology are so advanced that we can tell robots where to go with a remote and they will do it. They showed a robot from Star Wars. They used this robot to show their proof. The Robot was doing all sorts of things, he even poked Mr Burt(Our Priniciple)! It was very funny and cool, but the best part for me was when we found out that the Robot was actually created and was Mr Jacobsen(Associate Priniciple). The next item was from Team 1.
Team 1's item was next. They had prepared a movie for us that they filmed during the Holiday Break. Their Movie was based in the future. It started off with some children eating 'Fake Fruit' and talking about if they had seen a real fruit. It also was showing a video of how our bee's are becoming extinct from the disease CCD A.K.A Colony Collapse Disorder. They had to use directions to trace and find the last bee. They eventually found the last bee from all the directions a GPS(Global Positioning System) told them. So they are most likely to learn about listening and understanding the words that a Google Map says and knowing where to go by listening to the directions.
Term 2 had a fun time that was shown by a movie. They had a Easter Egg hunt! Now you may be wondering, ' What does that have to do with Longitude and Latitude?' Well let me tell you why! They had to find the chocolate eggs in all sorts of directions. They had to look up, down, right, left, over, under, around and look everywhere to find the chocolate eggs. They also get to create a Treasure Map for their buddy to find the treasure! They are definitely gonna have a great term!
Team 3 teachers also created a movie for us. They are going to be making pick a path stories where you have two choices. You have to pick Right or Left to go to the next place. This was similair to what we did last year in Mr Goodwins Class. Miss King(Team 3 Leader) also said that she got this idea from Mr Goodwin so that was cool to see something that I could relate to. They are also gonna have fun creating their Pick a path stories because I know for a fact that creating those types of stories are really enjoyable!
Team 4 had a really funny movie. It was a task to the the Team 4 teachers(except for Mr Goodwin) given by Mr Goodwin. They met at Pak'nsave and had to find their way back to School using the tools that were used back in the days. That included a compass, map and the sun if they know what they are doing. Mrs Sio was really funny because in this one scene she lead the rest of the teachers and she looked like she knew where she was going. She was using the technique from the movie Moana and put her hand up to the sky and walked in G.I. The funny part was that she lead them to Great Tong, which is a Fast Food Takeaway. Anyways they made their way back to school to make it on time for their meeting. They are learning about Navigation using the other tools excluding technologies like GPS or Google Maps.
Lastly, the best item which was from Team 5 A.K.A the best team( Not Biased At All!). The teachers from Team 5 had prepared a small act/play that is about Virtual Traveling. Mrs Tapuke was deciding on where to go with her family and so she decided that should go on a Virtual Travel Agency. She got to go to any Continent and visit them to see which one is best to go to. She visited most of the 7 Continents and was still not sure. It was a funny play and had a good topic to learn about. Our Inquiry Question is 'Where in the Longitude and Latitude are you in?' In my opinion, I love this because we are learning about Geography and once we go into College it will be easier because we will have more experience than others.
Overall the assembly was long but it was worth it. We had a lot of laughs now and then and still rolled with it when a few things were different. My Goal for this term is to learn as much about this topic so I can be prepared for College because I think taking Geography will be fun even though it won't help me much in my career I want to pursue. Other than that, Let's just hope that everything goes smoothly this term!

The Malaga Talk
Today, we had another talk. Instead this talk is about their careers and their journey on how they came to where they are now. The Guest speakers were Jason Young, Fiona Bakulich and Tanielu Tele'a. They are all related to Mrs Tele'a in different ways. Tanielu is Mrs Tele'as son, Fiona is Mrs Tele'a younger sister and Jason is Mr Tele'a ( Mrs Tele'a's husband) friend. They each had a turn to talk about their journey.
Jason Young is a builder and he was a part of a program and is a mentor for 'Big Buddy'. He has a lot of sayings from his mum. He had a lot of courage and he said he liked writing. He went to Pt England School and Tamaki College. He didn't go to University and he regretted that he didn't go but he was grateful for the teachers at PES and TC. We learnt that we should not let our job define who we are.
Next speaker was Fiona Bakulich. As I said before she is Mrs Tele'as sister. She is a funeral director, she is even in a TV program which is called 'The Casketeers'. She didn't have any troubles with taking care of the passed bodies because growing up she had to do jobs like wheeling out the dead bodies for her parents appointments with the passed member's family. She grew up having a good heart and being really kind. She went to Grey Lynn primary and Mangere College and Ponsonby Intermediate.
Lastly we had Tanielu Tele'a. He is a new member of the Blues. His family and his schools which were PES and St Kent's College were very proud of him. He had a grateful personality and loved everything whether it was non sport related. He participated in lot's of sports during his primary years. We learnt from him to try everything even if you are not good at it!
We loved the event and loved hearing other people's story. It was very inspiring and would like to have more people come in and talk more about their life story. Photo's Below!

Am I a good Detective?
Walt: Make conjectures by reading a graph and go through the cycle of being a Data Detective
Task Description
We are learning to be a Data Detective. In order to be a good Data Detective, we have to go through the steps of being a Detective. We have to make a problem and plan. Once we've planned, we have to collect data by interviewing people or doing a survey. After that's sorted we sort the data that has been collected and then we make a graph. Which is my favourite part. Then we make a Conclusion or conjectures about the graph. That is pretty much, what I had to go through. It was a long process but I made it. Enough of this you can now enjoy my presentation.

Problems about Percentages
Task Description
The task above is a presentation about percentages, I did last week. I didn't have time to post it last week so, I am posting it now. Hope you understand that I was in a rush. Enjoy!
Samoan traditions ( Poems )
Walt:express ideas in poetry form
Task Description
For this task, we had to write a Cinquain. A Cinquain is a type of poem. It tells a short story and has 5 lines, for each of those lines there is a limited amount of syllables you can use. The syllable pattern is 2, 4, 6, 8 and then 2. I wrote about two samoan traditions that both relate to each other. You can check it out in the slides above. There is also a Glossary at the end for the words that might be unknown to most of the people out there and for the key words too. Enjoy!
