Tongan Language Week! - 2020

What is Tongan Language Week?
This week is tongan language week! This is the week where we celebrate and learn the tongan language, culture, island and its people. This years theme is " Fakakoloa 'o Aotearoa ' aki ' a e Lotu mo'oni" which translates to "Enriching Aotearoa New Zealand through prayer and faith".

How could I celebrate Tongan Language Week?
You could celebrate tongan language week by simply educating yourself. Learn the basics of the language like " Malo e Lelei" or Malo 'Aupito" that means Hello and Thank you very much. The tongan language is beautiful, so learn it and appreciate it!

Why is it important to celebrate these language weeks?
It is very important to celebrate these cultural weeks. Since, we live in New Zealand, a multicultural country, everyone should learn to appreciate each others ethnicity. Our culture is a big part of our identity and we use these language weeks to respect and admire that special part of one another!

Energy, Lets save it! - Science Tech @ Tamaki

Today , we have Science for Tech down at Tamaki College.

Our topic for this week is Saving Energy! What do you know about saving energy at home? How does your family save energy at your home? It save you family from paying expensive bills and you can not go on your devices and wifi as much as you do, respectively.

We then had to name the rooms around the house and what would consume energy in that room. For example, Kitchen and Oven. The most interesting one that I liked was in your Bedroom and the outlets. The outlets consumed a lot of energy because you would usually plug your charger for your device and charge it over night. That is a long time.

Next, watched a video and it how people in a daily life would waste energy and they would fix it by limiting the use on energy. One way was too use stair instead of the elevator. Another way was to replace incandescent bulbs with eco friendly bulbs. You should follow these tips!

We drew incandescent bulbs and labeled each part of the 'body'. We also drew a eco friendly bulb. The difference between the two bulbs is the the Eco friendly light bulb conumes less compared to the Incandescent light. The reason behind it is because the Filaments inside the Incandescent bulbs use up a lot of power to actually light up the bulb.

Our science tech group took a look at Circuits. We tried lighting up a LED lights using a battery and this other tool that will remain unamed because I forgot what it is call. But we found out that the negative goes with positive and the positive goes with Negative. After a few tries we found one battery that was actually charged and it lit up the little LED light in the middle.

We still have more to work on and discover next thursday. So, Come back then and see what else we do for Science at Tech down at Tamaki College. Hope you have a beautiful Day or Night!

An Admirable Person? - Writing 2020

An Admirable Person?

Someone who you admire dearly! Who could it be? The person I look up to is a famous Celebrity. A strong, kind hearted and a beautiful voiced woman. Could you guess who it is?

If you guessed Selena Gomez then you are correct! She is strong. She is kind hearted. She has an
amazing voice. Let's what qualities make me love her

She is very strong! Mentally, Physically and Emotionally. She was diagnosed with the disease Lupus at young age. Because of that she developed Anxiety and Depression. She had gone through so much pain with her surgery and her Anxiety/ Depression. She also had a relationship that hurt abused her mentally and emotionally. Though she has gone through a hard time, she remembers to keep her head up and to just hope for the best. She has taught to always stay strong through hard times because at the end of every hardship there is always a great outcome.

The kind hearted woman, she is. She spreads awareness about Equality, Women’s rights and Bullying. She is very empathetic and I think that's what makes her really kind. Being very empathetic comes with being wise with her words. She doesn’t want to hurt others with her words or actions just to make her feel superior. She has definitely made me
more aware with my words and my actions towards others, being kind and definitely understanding.

Lastly, she has an amazing voice! When she sings, I can relate and connect with her. She sings with emotion, especially with her new album where it talks about her relationship and her wanting to be independent. I really like her chest voice and her head voice too. She has good control over her voice, which is amazing. She has her own unique and original sound, her voice color is really nice too!

Overall, I think we can all agree that she is a spectacular person. She is strong, kind hearted and has a  very melodic voice. Isn’t she the most perfect woman to walk on earth? I really think that you should listen to her music and also pay attention to the messages that she is trying to spread. Thank You Selena Gomez for being the person you are!

Book Summary Chapter 1 - Reading 2020

Chapter One of the book "How I didn't straighten my hair" is all about the main protaganist Dora explaining the dynamics of her greek family. There is a sense of jealousy/sister rivalry between her and her older sister who's still yet to be named.  My guess from this chapter is that the main reason for her jealousy is because her sister is the complete opposite of her both in looks and personality. Her sister has found her thing which is ballet dancing but Dora is still yet to find something that she enjoys and succeeds at and from what I've read so far it is not greek dancing, karate or hip hop. Hopefully in the next chapter we can see Dora explore more possibilities for what her "thing" could be.
