Reflection - Extension 2019

Extension 2019 Reflection!

Term 1 - In Term 1 we learnt about the Treaty of Waitangi. Our DLO task was to make a Game Design. I enjoyed planning a Game Design, it made me realise that a game designer takes a lot of time to plan and create their product. One thing, I could've worked on more was contributing more to Paideia Seminar. It was also my first time going to KPMG.

Term 2 - Term 2, we did work related to Latitude and Longitude such as using Compasses, doing orienteering and more. DLO task was to create a Bincurity tool to help around school. I created a Manual Trash Compactor. We also went to KPMG this term.

Term 3 - For Term 3, we had make a movie about Sustainability. I was in a group with Eden, Zaeeda and Bethan. We made a video about children do have rights to speak the opinion. W also had a classification for the sea creatures. We put some sea animals into groups due to the features they have in common. We had a great time at KPM, going to Sustainable Coastlines to have a better understanding of the water resources and more.

Term 4 - This term was very busy but we made time to make a UV Sensor. We also went to KPMG in Week 3. WE learnt about UV Lights and the Ozone Layer / hole.

Overall. this year was jam packed with trips and events. It was so fun to go to KPMG and creating cool products for our DLO. Hope you enjoyed!

KPMG Term 3 - 2019 Extension

This term the Extension group and a few other students from Team 5 went to KPMG in the City. As you all know this term's topic is "Something in the Water" or "He mea i roto i te wai", so KPMG planned a whole event for us to do that ties in with our theme. We mainly learned about Sustainability. Sustainability of the Environment and Ocean.

We had a delicious Morning Tea and Lunch, made from KPMG's Kitchen Staff. We met Lucy and Susan who are aquatic ecologist. Ecology is a branch of Biology and studies how the plants and animals are connected to their environment and their surroundings. Overall, they make sure that the environment they are living in is healthy and safe for them.

We later then walked a five minute stroll down to Sustainable Coastlines. The building was quite cozy and had nice, peaceful beach vibes. We looked at photos of some Ecosystems and Land that has been destroyed and is still healthy. We also talked about some products that hurt and help the environment!

We created our own robots from our Maori God we were assigned to. My group had Tangaroa; the God of Sea in Maori Mythology. In Tongan Mythology, he was recognised as the God of the Sky. We had a rubbish product we had to make our robot based around that. Our rubbish tool was Ghost nets. Ghost nets are Fishing Nets left by Fishermen. We made a robot that would swim and pick up any rubbish and most importantly the Ghost Nets.

I would like to thank KPMG and the Sustainable Coastlines for letting us go there. I learnt many things today and I can't wait til the next trip which is next term!

Point me in the right direction!

Today at Year 7&8 Extension Class, we learnt how to use a compass. Mr Jacobsen helped us by providing a presentation on the anatomy of a Compass and how to use it.
Down Below!

We did an Orienteering Course around the School. I was partners with Bethan. We were the first pair to finish first with the correct answer. Bethan and I had a few difficulties with the Compass but we still finished the course with a big smile on our face. It was loads of fun. We were walking around to the yellow circles that had degrees at the bottom to lead us to our next disc. We went around in zig zag circles to finish the course.
