(As I saw it) - History 2020

Task Description

Continuing onto my past few "As I see it" inquiry work stuff. We are learning about some history in New Zealand. Such as the first day of James Cook and the Endeavour arriving in Aotearoa. We got given a random card that had an item on it. The item correlated with a person. The person I had which is Taiata, had a terrible life, being a 12 year old who was kidnapped from his own home. One of the tasks. I had to do was to write in the perspective of the item you were given. I enjoyed it very much. Check it out in the slides above!

Signing my name - 2020

Task Description

This week is New Zealand Sign Language Week. This is our 3rd official language in New Zealand. I learnt the Alphabet in NZSL In the task above, I had to sign my name by finger-spelling. Enjoy!

THE MOMENT - Maori Language Week

On September 14 1972, there was a petition signed from many new zealanders. It was a protest to let them speak the maori language freely. And to save the maori language from dying and being forgotten.

Back then, people weren't allowed to speak their own native language especially Te Reo Maori. Not speaking your language will make it easier for you to forget your language. The next generations will grow up with english as their first language and not knowing our cultural language. Your native language will slowly die and be forgotten if we don't speak it!

On the same day, the same hour, New Zealand is celebrating this wonderful event. At Point England, we are suporting New Zealand by standing and singing a few waiatas. We sang a few songs to celebrate and show that we care about Te Reo Maori!

Te Ika A Maui - Reading 2020

 

Task Description

Our task was about the Legend/Myth about Maui and how NZ came to be. I already knew this story but I learnt some new facts about Maui and the country - New Zealand. My task was to break an extract of the text into word groups. Next, I had to highlight the "worthy" word and underline its word group. I also made a recording of me reading the text with expression. Create task was making a review on a particular video and why you should watfch it. I think a did a good job on this but I am still probably gonna edit this later with my teacher!
