Aue Rona! - Writing 2020

Task Description
I haven't posted a writing task in a while, so here you go! Like my reading task, it's about Rona and the moon. The object of our task was to choose whether you support or don't support with Rona getting angry at the moon. I chose the stance of supporting Rona. It took a while to actually understand the story so I can use the information from the Patricia Grace story in my own writing. I tried to make it seem as if I had the same emotions and mindset as Rona but not in her perspective, If you get what i'm saying (Probably not). Anyway, Enjoy!

An Admirable Person? - Writing 2020

An Admirable Person?

Someone who you admire dearly! Who could it be? The person I look up to is a famous Celebrity. A strong, kind hearted and a beautiful voiced woman. Could you guess who it is?

If you guessed Selena Gomez then you are correct! She is strong. She is kind hearted. She has an
amazing voice. Let's what qualities make me love her

She is very strong! Mentally, Physically and Emotionally. She was diagnosed with the disease Lupus at young age. Because of that she developed Anxiety and Depression. She had gone through so much pain with her surgery and her Anxiety/ Depression. She also had a relationship that hurt abused her mentally and emotionally. Though she has gone through a hard time, she remembers to keep her head up and to just hope for the best. She has taught to always stay strong through hard times because at the end of every hardship there is always a great outcome.

Picture Attributes:Lunchbox LP, Culver City, California / CC BY

The kind hearted woman, she is. She spreads awareness about Equality, Women’s rights and Bullying. She is very empathetic and I think that's what makes her really kind. Being very empathetic comes with being wise with her words. She doesn’t want to hurt others with her words or actions just to make her feel superior. She has definitely made me
more aware with my words and my actions towards others, being kind and definitely understanding.

Lastly, she has an amazing voice! When she sings, I can relate and connect with her. She sings with emotion, especially with her new album where it talks about her relationship and her wanting to be independent. I really like her chest voice and her head voice too. She has good control over her voice, which is amazing. She has her own unique and original sound, her voice color is really nice too!

Overall, I think we can all agree that she is a spectacular person. She is strong, kind hearted and has a  very melodic voice. Isn’t she the most perfect woman to walk on earth? I really think that you should listen to her music and also pay attention to the messages that she is trying to spread. Thank You Selena Gomez for being the person you are!

Should Students Have To Wear School Uniform? - Writing 2019

Should Students Have To Wear School Uniform?

Why do we wear School Uniforms? There are many reasons to why Uniforms are a policy at schools, such as the growth of focus, barriers between students disappearing and because School is for learning not a Runway. Students should wear School Uniforms and I’ll tell you why!

School uniforms can increase the pupil’s focus. Having these uniforms can stop the student stressing about their appearance and more. They will be more relaxed that no one will comment on their outfit and will spend their mental energy on learning. Everyone will have the same style of fashion and will only worry about their schoolwork.

The uniforms can break down barriers between students. Uniforms can make the line of wealth and poverty disappear. Students outfits will be the same so that can lead to more socializing between the different students. Having School uniforms can put the differences of the students aside and let them communicate!

Lastly, School is a place for learning not a Fashion Runway! School is a wonderful place for learning things that can help you in the future and many more. At schools with no uniforms, people tend to try and impress others with their outfits and that distracts the kids and stops them from learning. You go to school to learn not to become a model!

There you have it! 3 reasons on why students should wear School Uniforms. There are many more reasons that have been proved by scientists or just stated by students themselves. What do you think, are you for or against?

Is bringing back Extinct Species worthwhile? - Writing 2019

WALT - Express and opinion on a topic

Is bringing back Extinct Species worthwhile? My response is no. I comprehend I'm no savant but I am a "prodigy" that has some genuine points and I want to bestow them to you. Having a child's POV and opinion is great so keep reading to find out what I think!

There is this article that my teacher has provided for us so we can have a clear insight for our side of the argument. Two Stanford researchers have extracted the essential Pros and Cons of De-extinction. I will be talking about three cons from the article and elaborate on that from my point of view.

Animal Welfare
Animal welfare is the health, happiness and fortune of an animal. Will the extinct species be happy and healthy? A reason why scientists are bringing them back is that there is a possible chance that extinct animals can restore our environment. From that, People (Scientists) are exploiting them for human purposes and in this case, it is for restoring our Earth's condition because the harm is from us. Exploiting them can anguish the individuals of the de-extinct species and that is bad. If we are bringing them back then we should treat them with special care because they were extinct and it could happen again if we don't stay attentive with how we're treating them.

Health

" Species could carry retroviruses or pathogens when brought back to life" Retroviruses are any RNA virus group that inserts a DNA copy of its genome into the host cell to replicate and Pathogens is a virus that can produce disease. This is a worry for us humans because if we bring them back to life and they are born or get a disease they're going to die earlier than they are supposed to and it's going to be a waste of time and money. What happens if they are born with new diseases that we can catch?

Environment

"De-extinct species would be alien and potentially invasive; their habitats and food sources have changed, so their roles in these changed ecosystems could be too" This statement is accurate especially if they use the cloning method because they are extracting the nucleus from a preserved cell of the extinct species and swapping it into an egg of the nearest relative. Using the cloning method will prove that this consequence will happen and is true. Their roles will change and so has the environment. Before we create them let's fix our planet by ourselves first!

I have only covered 3 cons and there are many more! Of course, this is just my opinion and if it changed any of your minds then great!, that was what I was going for. I know no scientist would read this and change their mind about if they support bringing back Extinct species but at least think about what could happen if the distant future. Think about us children who still want a future!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Task Description

Last week we have been learning about De-extinction! Bringing back the extinct species. The statement was "Is bring back Extinct Species worthwhile?". I think that bringing back extinct animals is not worthwhile, my opinion and some facts are in the writing above. Enjoy!

Bringing back the dead - Reading 2019

WALT: Discuss And Justify An Opinion On A Topic

Why are scientists interested in de-extinction?

Scientists are interested in De-extinction because they could bring back extinct animals to life and those animals may be able to help our problems around the world.

The extinct animals such as dinosaurs are a part of History and if we bring them back we could make a huge impact on our surroundings and we can make new history with them.

Describe the three main categories of de-extinction.

Cloning: To make an identical copy of something

Synthesis: A combination of elements/compounds to create something wholly

Back Breeding: This method can recreate the traits of an extinct species, but the genome will differ from the original species. It is when you try to create an extinct species using an animal that looks similar to it. You do not know how it behaves but only an idea of how it looks because it's extinct!

Poster
The poster below is showing one of the 3 main categories/methods that scientist use to bring extinct life back. I have chosen Back breeding or Breeding back. This was interesting to me so I decided why not research it and share my knowledge with you all!

My task was to watch this video that describes the "Science behind De-extinction". I then had to research further and describe in my own words one of the 3 main methods. After researching, I had to create a Poster putting all the research and knowledge I have learnt on it.
Here it is!

My thoughts on De-extinction

Lastly, I thought I should add my thoughts on De-extinction! I know I am not a Scientist but having a Childs Point of View or Opinion would be great. After all, Someday you all would be gone and I would still be standing. What I mean is that it's our future you have to think about. Is it going to have an impact on our environment, not just the Earth but in our Communities?

I think that bringing back Extinct Species is a bad idea! For example, Bringing back the Passenger Pigeon Species is bad. Why?, Well, Humans don't even like Pigeons in the first place. So, if you think about Passenger Pigeons coming back to life, we're just gonna treat them as pigeons.

We don't know how these Extinct animals behave. So, why bring them back? They may help our diminished Ecosystem but what if it doesn't. There isn't much proof that makes me change how I feel about it.

These species were extinct for a reason, whether it was because of Colonization or from humans eating them, it is Extinct. It is all History and it will stay like that. The past is the past, the present is now and the future is the future.
Let's all leave the past behind, live in the Present and think ahead for our children's future!

MRS GREN - Literacy 2019

Walt - Identify key information in a text

Question 1 - What is the key phrase to help you remember the 7 Life Processes?

MRS GREN is a way to remember the Seven Life Processes

Question 2 - Explain which life process each letter in the phrase represents.

M in MRS GREN stands for Movement. Organisms can move in different ways, pace or way it still moves by itself.

R is for Respiration. Cells release stored energy from food.

S is for Sensitivity. Organisms detect changes in the surrounding environment so they can survive.

G stands for Growth. Many organisms grow in height to a certain age. Some organisms have cells that get bigger while others get more cells.

R in GREN stands for Reproduction. There are two types of Reproduction. Asexual and Sexual. The capacity to reproduce and pass genetic data on their children is reproduction.

E is for Excretion. Excretion is not ONLY pooping, instead it is the process of getting rid of waste from chemical reactions.

#PlasticFreeJulyChallenge - Writing 2019

WALT - Write for a specific reason

Reduce plastic use!: The challenge

Utilizing single use plastic material is useful. But, is it beneficial for the environment? I think not. The impact from plastic has made a huge difference from a century ago. So let us reduce plastic use and join the challenge.

What is this challenge? This challenge is called Plastic Free July. Participating in this event will cause you to stop using anything plastic, such as plastic bottles, plastic utensils, plastic bags, plastic straws and more. Everything we use that includes plastic is prohibited. I dare you to do this challenge with me!

If you are aiming to not use plastic water bottles, here are a few things you should know. Instead of using plastic bottles, why not use a reusable bottle like a stainless steel bottle. Just make sure that the stainless bottle you are using is safe for your health. It is scientifically proven that some steel bottles are made with aluminium and that is poisonous. Safety first!

Plastic bags are another challenge you can overcome too! Did you know in New Zealand that the Government has banned Plastic bags from stores? You can use any type of reusable bags as long as they are biodegradable. Meaning.... This can help you for many things. First is, it helps the environment and second it can help you save money.  That’s all.

The aim of this event is to create habits so you can use it for your lifetime. Sure, it say July but if you get used to it, Why go back? I'm sure for myself as I have had experience with this. Create new habits.

This is all for the environment. If we stop the use of Plastic then our land will be a happy environment. Stopping plastic is one of the things we can do to make a change and right now that is happening in NZ. Plastic bags getting banned have helped and that is not the end of making our earth a better place. For our earth, let’s end the use of plastic and join the challenge of the Plastic Free July!

TASK DESCRIPTION
I am writing about the Plastic Free July. Read it above to find out more.
