Bringing back the dead - Reading 2019

WALT: Discuss And Justify An Opinion On A Topic

Why are scientists interested in de-extinction?

Scientists are interested in De-extinction because they could bring back extinct animals to life and those animals may be able to help our problems around the world.

The extinct animals such as dinosaurs are a part of History and if we bring them back we could make a huge impact on our surroundings and we can make new history with them.

Describe the three main categories of de-extinction.

Cloning: To make an identical copy of something

Synthesis: A combination of elements/compounds to create something wholly

Back Breeding: This method can recreate the traits of an extinct species, but the genome will differ from the original species. It is when you try to create an extinct species using an animal that looks similar to it. You do not know how it behaves but only an idea of how it looks because it's extinct!

Poster
The poster below is showing one of the 3 main categories/methods that scientist use to bring extinct life back. I have chosen Back breeding or Breeding back. This was interesting to me so I decided why not research it and share my knowledge with you all!

My task was to watch this video that describes the "Science behind De-extinction". I then had to research further and describe in my own words one of the 3 main methods. After researching, I had to create a Poster putting all the research and knowledge I have learnt on it.
Here it is!

My thoughts on De-extinction

Lastly, I thought I should add my thoughts on De-extinction! I know I am not a Scientist but having a Childs Point of View or Opinion would be great. After all, Someday you all would be gone and I would still be standing. What I mean is that it's our future you have to think about. Is it going to have an impact on our environment, not just the Earth but in our Communities?

I think that bringing back Extinct Species is a bad idea! For example, Bringing back the Passenger Pigeon Species is bad. Why?, Well, Humans don't even like Pigeons in the first place. So, if you think about Passenger Pigeons coming back to life, we're just gonna treat them as pigeons.

We don't know how these Extinct animals behave. So, why bring them back? They may help our diminished Ecosystem but what if it doesn't. There isn't much proof that makes me change how I feel about it.

These species were extinct for a reason, whether it was because of Colonization or from humans eating them, it is Extinct. It is all History and it will stay like that. The past is the past, the present is now and the future is the future.
Let's all leave the past behind, live in the Present and think ahead for our children's future!

MRS GREN - Literacy 2019

Walt - Identify key information in a text

Question 1 - What is the key phrase to help you remember the 7 Life Processes?

MRS GREN is a way to remember the Seven Life Processes

Question 2 - Explain which life process each letter in the phrase represents.

M in MRS GREN stands for Movement. Organisms can move in different ways, pace or way it still moves by itself.

R is for Respiration. Cells release stored energy from food.

S is for Sensitivity. Organisms detect changes in the surrounding environment so they can survive.

G stands for Growth. Many organisms grow in height to a certain age. Some organisms have cells that get bigger while others get more cells.

R in GREN stands for Reproduction. There are two types of Reproduction. Asexual and Sexual. The capacity to reproduce and pass genetic data on their children is reproduction.

E is for Excretion. Excretion is not ONLY pooping, instead it is the process of getting rid of waste from chemical reactions.

N is Nutrition. You can get Nutrition from food. Some organism get their food in other places.

The biggest challenge of the Century? - Reading 2019

WALT - Discuss and justify our opinion on a topic

Task Description

My reading group, Waititi read a text about Climate Change. We then watched a video about a village in Samoa getting flooded from the rising sea levels. After watching the video I wrote 7 words that had the word change in it. I also wrote a few synonyms for change. I then wrote reasons why I disagree and agree with the statement in the Presentation. For my create Task I paired up with a few people from my group and made a poster showing the impact from the extreme weather.  If you want to find out more just take a look through my Slides above!

We had to complete a Irony chart. You can check out my Review on this book in the presentation above. We also had to create a Character Map of Mary Maloney which is the main character for the short story we are learning. You can check out all of this up in the Slideshow!

A Way Of Talking - Reading work

Walt: think critically about an author's style

Task Description

This week's reading task was to read a short story and think very hard about how the author has written it. The short story we read was very hard to understand because it didn't give us much information because we had to analyse and pull out info to get a full conclusion. This helped me to get better at this skill which is analysing and getting information from a sentence or two. You can check out above to see what I am talking about!

For my Review I talked about the text I read, which is 'A way of talking'! I wrote a summary of the story, wrote about my thoughts, favourite parts in the story. Also what age I recommend to read the short story. That is also up in the presentation!

My create task was to imagine that we are Rose, who is a character from the story and describe how she is feeling and what she is thinking, when she hears Jane's remark. Check that up in the Presentation and anything else.

If you have any positive questions or feedback on my blog then feel free to comment. Enjoy!

Reconnecting the Brain

Up above, we have a presentation all about this scientist who is experimenting with a brain. She enjoys her job. I had to write a profile and a review about her and the text that provides all of my information.

Preparing for a test

Task Description
This task is about being test ready. This week we had a two reading test which is all about comprehension and Vocabulary. We had to read a text and answer the question. The other was about Synonyms and Vocab. This task wasn't tricky but wasn't easy. Hope you enjoy!
